Austrian Symbolist artist Gustav Klimt (1862 – 1918) was a key figure in the Vienna Secession (the Austrian equivalent of Art Nouveau). His work comprises sketches, murals and paintings, including the large Beethoven Frieze in Josef Hofmann's Palais Stoclet in Brussels, and is characterized by the themes of sexuality, love, regeneration and death.
